Washington County Department of Land Use & Transportation (LUT) is hiring a Building Permit Technician I and a Building Technician II.  Both positions will provide building permit requirements, codes and inspection procedures information to contractors, design professionals and the public. They will process building permit applications and issue building permits.

As a LUT Building Permit Technician, you will assist field inspectors, plans examiners, planners, other County Departments, outside agencies and the public with permit records’ research via a computer tracking database, project files, microfiche, chronological logbooks and permit cards.

Building Permit Technician I

Our Building Permit Technician I responds to requests and inquiries, both verbally and in writing. They process permits, reviewing all documents for accuracy and completeness. He/she assists inspectors, field examiners, planners and others; manages public records; calculates fees; and performs data entry. Our Building Permit Technician I also works with a team of Building Section professionals to determine if permits are ready for final inspection and issuance of Certificates of Occupancy.

Building Permit Technician II

In addition to sharing the job duties of the Building Permit Technician I, Our Building Permit Technician II may provide technical guidance and support of administrative or building permit staff. He/she will also coordinate the entire permit process for complex, larger-scope projects.

LUT’s Building Permit Technicians will have knowledge of:

Office practices and procedures.

Construction drawings, building codes and construction types.

Administrative rules and ordinances.

Provide technical support and training to staff.

Archiving requirements for maintaining public records (Building Permit Tech II)

Computer tracking software system for data entry and retrieval (Building Permit Tech II)

 

LUT’s Building Permit Technician I will have:

A high school diploma or equivalent AND

Two years of administrative support and customer service experience related to land use regulations, the building process, the construction industry, drafting or mapping; OR

One year equivalency of college-level course work in construction technology, blueprint reading, drafting, building inspection, and urban planning AND one year of work experience involving administrative support and customer service related to land use regulations, the building process, the construction industry, drafting or mapping.

A valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.

LUT’s Building Permit Technician II will have:

A high school diploma or equivalent; AND

Two years of experience in processing building permit applications; OR

Two years of experience in administrative support and customer service experience related to land use regulations, the building process, the construction industry, drafting or mapping AND one (1) year of experience in processing building.

A valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.

An International Code Council (ICC) permit technician certification.
