Washington County Department of Land Use & Transportation (LUT) is hiring a Senior Planner. We’re looking for ab enthusiastic, community-minded team player who can hit the ground running to address manage a broad range of demographic, economic, social and political issues. In this position, you’ll exercise independent judgement, initiative and professional planning expertise.
Identify the needs; find the solutions
As our Senior Planner, you will play a lead role in professional and technical planning activities, including some direct supervision of complex professional planning work. This includes conducting and supervising planning studies and projects, developing community plans and supervising the review of land development applications. You’ll develop policies and procedures, evaluate new or revised laws, codes and regulations and make recommendations for implementation to the Principal Planner, Division Management or Department Leadership.
Our Senior Planner is the person we turn to for answers. You’ll take the lead on updating division-planning info. We’ll look to you for an inventory of natural resources, population estimates, public facilities, transportation facilities and other related data. You’ll be the one who reviews and prepares recommendations on major plan amendments and land development requests. We’ll rely on you to implement policies, including standards and procedures for preparation of community plans. You’ll also work toward implementation of County plans with state and regional planning agencies, and will be responsible for preparation and evaluation of reports on the County’s role in state and regional planning goals and projects.

LUT’s Senior Planner will have:
A bachelor’s degree in urban or regional planning, urban studies, geography, architecture, community development, economics, environmental studies or a related field; AND
Five years of increasingly responsible experience in land use planning and development, community design planning or regional transportation planning, city or community planning or related areas; OR
A master’s degree in urban or regional planning, urban studies, geography, architecture, community development, economics, environmental studies or a related field; AND
Three years of increasingly responsible experience in land use planning and development, community design planning or regional, transportation planning, city or community planning or related areas.
A driver’s license valid in the State of Oregon and an acceptable driving record.
