Washington County Department of Land Use & Transportation (LUT) is hiring a full-time Utility Worker and six seasonal Utility Workers. In this role, you will join our Operations and Maintenance Division crews on the front lines. Our crews work hard performing critical road maintenance that keeps those who travel in Washington County roads safe.

Whether it’s replacing bridge timbers, running a brush chipper, installing culverts or maintaining equipment, our utility crews make a difference every day. It is the LUT Utility Workers who help keep Washington County “on the move.”

Utility Workers

Our Utility Workers will repair and maintain Washington County road systems including roadside maintenance and repair, installing culverts and pipes and patching potholes. They will remove roadway brush by felling trees with chain saws, feeding brush chippers and maintaining landscaping and irrigation systems. Duties also include installation of traffic signs, signals and lights; replacement of bridge timbers; painting of pilings; and equipment maintenance.

Utility Workers will also perform work zone control including setting out traffic control devices at work sites, driving pilot vehicles and spotting for equipment operators. Our Utility Workers also assist with emergency situations such as flooded roadways, plugged culverts and downed trees – all of which involve keeping roads safe for Washington County travelers.

LUT’s Utility Workers will be able to:

Lift and carry heavy and/or awkward materials

Perform physical labor for extended periods under adverse conditions

Communicate effectively

Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships

LUT’s Utility Workers will have:

A high school diploma or equivalent; AND

A driver’s license valid in the state of Oregon and acceptable driving record.

Ability to secure Work Zone Traffic Controller certification within 30 days of employment.

Ability to pass a post-offer physical abilities assessment prior to appointment.
